This is the Spring/Summer 2026 model from the “Sun Surf Special Edition” series—a line that reissues pieces of particularly high historical value from the lineup of “Sun Surf,” a long-established brand dedicated to exploring the charm of vintage aloha shirts.
Kamehameha Garments, which began by manufacturing uniforms for the U.S. Army and Navy before growing into one of Hawaii’s largest apparel manufacturers.
The company’s “KAMEHAMEHA” brand introduced numerous iconic aloha shirts to the world, making full use of multicolored discharge printing.
This piece is a reissue of one such design—the “Gauguin Woodcut”—which is highly regarded as a work of art even in the vintage market.
It is a masterpiece created by John Mages, a master of aloha shirt design, who collaged elements from painter Paul Gauguin’s woodcut “NOA-NOA.” However, there are actually two distinct compositions featuring the woman who serves as the central figure in this design.
Various theories have been put forward—ranging from adjustments made for pattern placement to requests from Kamehameha—but none have gone beyond the realm of speculation, and the work remains known as a piece shrouded in mystery.
For this release, we’ve adopted the “MYSTIC” version, known for its composition featuring the woman standing up. This marks the long-awaited re-release, the first since 2014.

This series features masterpieces carefully selected from Sun Surf’s vast collection of vintage aloha shirts, brought back to life with a finish that fans find irresistible.
Paying homage to the textile designers who created these masterpieces—which are gradually being lost to the passage of time—the series perfectly recreates every aspect of their charm, from the luxurious multicolored prints and striking designs to the subtle details that vary by manufacturer and era.
The label features the original manufacturer’s name in an “authentic reproduction” design, and the shirt comes with a special tag and a custom case, making it a truly special collector’s item.
■Fabrics and Prints That Recreate the Vintage Look
The fabric uses filament rayon, the material synonymous with aloha shirts.
It features a supple drape and an elegant sheen, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful texture unique to rayon when worn.
The prints utilize the discharge printing technique commonly used on vintage aloha shirts.
The beautiful contrast with the base color vividly highlights each motif.

In this special edition, even the woven label on the collar faithfully reproduces the original design—a true “authentic reproduction.”
While many Kamehameha brand aloha shirts have been reissued, this piece goes a step further by faithfully recreating even the unique label shapes found on each original design, featuring the distinctive boat-shaped label.
Furthermore, to faithfully reproduce the original specifications, we create custom patterns for each piece, meticulously capturing the atmosphere of the era down to the finest details of the silhouette.
