This is the 2024 model “MACINTOSH UKULELE” from the brand “SUNSURF”, which revives many vintage aloha shirts.
This model is made of cotton and linen blended material, while most of the lineup is made of rayon.
By analyzing our vast collection of vintage Aloha shirts, we have been able to obtain the same understanding of the techniques and processes used to complete the fabric and sewing of the shirt.
“MACINTOSH UKULELE”.
The Mattson Line was a luxury cruise ship that sailed between San Francisco and Hawaii in the 1940s.
This pattern is commonly known as the “menu pattern” design, using the cover of its restaurant menu as the motif for the shirt.
The design, drawn by artist Frank McIntosh, was popular at the time, and even today it is one of the most coveted vintage aloha masterpieces by collectors around the world.
The fabric is a cotton-linen blend.
It is made of slub yarn with irregular knots, and the print gives a unique frayed texture to the reverse side.
By using the reverse side as the surface (using the reverse side), it is characterized by its elegant appearance with a slightly subdued coloring compared to the surface.
The linen content also makes it smooth to the touch and highly breathable, so it can be worn comfortably even in the summer when it is sweaty.
The neck has an open collar, which is standard for aloha shirts, but it is possible to close the top button under the collar according to your style.
The back of the neck has an original Sun Surf design name attached.
The pattern of the chest pocket and the body of the garment is matched, creating a sense of unity in the design.
The pattern matching requires high sewing skill and a large amount of fabric, so it is made with care and luxury, and you can feel the care that only a long-established replica Aloha company can provide.
Coconut buttons are used for the buttons, and the natural look goes well with the cotton linen material.
The shoulder yokes are pleated in two places to reduce the feeling of tightness when moving around the shoulders.
The hem is boxy and cut in a straight line, creating a well-balanced silhouette as a single piece of clothing.
