The winter combat jacket, which is commonly known as gTankersh, was originally developed as part of the winter combat uniform for armored division. On the European front it was used not only by armored units, but also by pilots due to the shortage of winter equipment. In 1943, when the M1943 field jacket, a versatile was adopted, and the tankers jacket came into limited use. The cotton twill outer shell has water and wind resistant finish. The 26oz wool was used for the inner lining, and the sides and sleeves are sewn with double-needle lap seams. In addition, the back sides are pleated to ease movement of arms. The jacket comes in two type, one with patch pockets, which is generally considered as the earlier model, and the other with welt pockets.
