■Type TANKERS PATCH POCKET "BUZZ RICKSON CO. 2nd ARMOR DIVISION"
This tanker jacket is made by Buzz Rickson's, a brand that thoroughly analyzes the spinning and weaving of yarns, fabric materials, parts, and form to revive classic military wear, including flight jackets.
Officially named the "Jacket, Combat, Winter" jacket, it was developed in 1940, just before the United States entered World War II.
Originally developed as winter combat clothing for armored units, it was also used as a flight jacket on the European front due to a shortage of winter gear. However, with the adoption of the multi-purpose combat uniform M1943 field jacket in 1943, the Tanker jacket saw limited use for a relatively short period of time.
Two types existed: an early model with patch pockets and a later model with slash pockets. This model recreates the earlier model.
With its simple design and natural texture, this jacket blends easily with any outfit, earning it popularity beyond the realm of military style.
The collar is made of wool ribbing and features a stand-up collar not often seen on flight jackets.
The zipper is made by Talon, and the placket is equipped with a storm flap to prevent wind from seeping in through gaps in the zipper, recreating every detail.
The design features a staff sergeant's rank insignia on both shoulders, and the 2nd Armored Unit insignia on the left shoulder.
Just like the real thing, the details are hand-sewn in.
The jacket features patch pockets on both sides of the waist, a characteristic of the early-model tanker jacket.
The cuffs and hem are made of the same ribbing material as the collar, and are woven in a combination of low and high gauge for a comfortable fit and to block out cold air.
The ribbing on the cuffs is seamless, resulting in no noticeable roughness.
The outer fabric is a crisp, water- and wind-resistant cotton twill, and the lining is made of 26oz wool, ensuring the durability and warmth required of military wear.
As its nickname, TANKERS, suggests, this jacket was made for tank crews, so it is designed with mobility in mind for the confined environment inside a tank.
Deep pleats from the shoulders to the back allow for smooth movement around the shoulders.
