The 471st Bomb Squadron was created in July 1942 as a squadron under the 3rd Air Force and was requested as a B-24 Liberator training unit before being deployed to the war zone. All four squadrons formed by the 334th Bombardment Battalion used the Bomby Bear as their unit emblem.”
The fabric is a moderately thick 100% cotton, lined sweatshirt fabric with excellent heat retention properties.
The body is knit in a round body with no seams at the sides, which improves comfort as there is no seam contact.
The neck ribs are made with a binder neck with 2 needles, which is resistant to stretching.
Major seams, such as armholes and shoulders, are sewn with flat seams, which minimizes bulging of seam allowance on the back side, reducing stress when it hits the skin and enhancing comfort.
The outlock stitching on the sleeves and ribbing is also a subtle design accent.
The V-gusset with a beaten-in gusset sewn on a triangle gusset at the neck, long sleeves, and ribbed hem give this sweatshirt a vintage-style appearance.
