■A piece made by a "genuine" sukajan manufacturer
This is Tailor Toyo's reversible sukajan, the "EAGLE" x "BLUE TIGER" model for Fall/Winter 2025.
Sukajan first began being sold as souvenirs at U.S. military base stores shortly after the war, but during the 1950s, the heyday of sukajan production, Kosho Shokai, the predecessor to Toyo Enterprises, the company that develops the Tailor Toyo brand, boasted a 95% supply share.
This piece, made by a direct descendant of a manufacturer that has been making sukajan for over half a century, is crafted with impeccable attention to detail, from embroidery technique to stitching.
A must-have item for sukajan fans.
■The unique appeal of "Western clothing originating in Japan"
The style, familiar to American soldiers, features a shape modeled after a baseball jacket and zippers reminiscent of flight jackets, along with oriental embroidery that made it a popular souvenir.
Sukajan jackets, while still Western clothing, feature a unique Japanese aesthetic and a reversible design that allows you to wear both sides. In recent years, they've become a highly sought-after item, thanks in part to the revival of '90s street fashion.
■ The Sukajan's Impressive Design
As mentioned above, Tailor Toyo has been making sukajan jackets since the days of its predecessor, Kosho, and their past products are now highly regarded as "vintage."
This piece is a 30-year-old reproduction of a model released in the 1990s, reissued using current technology.
The '90s vintage jacket recently garnered attention after a popular American singer-songwriter wore it in a television commercial for a major discount store.
The wine-colored body features an orange gradient eagle, and the multicolored ribbing adds a finishing touch to the overall look.
The reversible side features a silver and navy "reverse color scheme" with the sleeves darker than the body, highlighting a fiercely roaring blue tiger.
By taking advantage of the lustrous rayon thread and skillfully manipulating the needle foot, the design shines with artisanal skill, using three-dimensional effects and shading to express the tiger's fur and stripes in a solid color.
As with the front, four colorful ribbing adds a finishing touch.

The embroidery is performed using a special "horizontal swing sewing machine," rather than a typical automatic sewing machine, which allows the artisan to control the swing width and needle foot. Supervised by artisans who have been working in embroidery since the 1950s, we have achieved a genuine, authentic finish.
■Vintage-inspired craftsmanship
The ribbing on the collar, cuffs, and hem is stretchy, improving the fit when worn.
Faithfully recreating vintage details, such as double-welt pockets—a testament to meticulous craftsmanship—and the butterfly zipper for reversible clothing.
Made from acetate, the most standard material for sukajan, it features a soft texture and a drape-like feel.
In the post-war period, procuring silk thread was difficult due to material restrictions, so acetate, with its luxurious feel similar to silk, was historically used.
■A silhouette that can be enjoyed in a wide range of styles, from just right to oversized
The silhouette features a clean neckline and raglan sleeves that gently contour the shoulders.
This versatile item is appealing in its versatility, catering to a wide range of tastes, from classic just-right fits to oversized styles.
Tailor Toyo has been making sukajan since the days of its predecessor, Kosho, and its past products are now highly regarded as "vintage." In response to numerous customer requests, this piece is a re-release of a sukajan made by Tailor Toyo in the 1990s, using current techniques for the first time in approximately 30 years. The exquisite orange gradation of the eagle embroidery stands out against the wine-colored body, and the multicolored ribbing adds a touch of balance to the overall look.
The reversible side features a silver and navy "reverse color scheme" with the underside of the sleeves being darker than the body, and a fiercely roaring blue tiger stands out against it. Utilizing the characteristics of the lustrous rayon thread, the embroidery is layered with complex needlework, creating a three-dimensional effect and shading that expresses the tiger's fur and stripes, even though it is a single color. As with the front, the four-color colorful ribbing adds an accent.
