■A Jacket Crafted by a “Genuine” Sukajan Manufacturer
Sukajans first began to be sold as souvenirs at U.S. military base stores shortly after World War II.
This reversible Sukajan is crafted by TAILOR TOYO, a brand with roots in Minato Sho Shokai—a company that boasted a market share of approximately 95% during the 1950s, when Sukajan production reached its peak.
Drawing on the heritage and technical expertise unique to a direct-line manufacturer that has been crafting Sukajans for over half a century, this garment has been meticulously crafted down to the embroidery patterns, color schemes, and every fine detail.
It’s a must-see for fans, offering a chance to fully appreciate the charm of the Sukajan.
■A Design That Defines the Sukajan
Based on a vintage piece from the early 1950s, this jacket features an “inverted color scheme” of orange and black—with the color under the sleeves darker than the body—that makes a striking impression.
The embroidery uses monochrome thread reminiscent of ink wash paintings to dynamically depict an eagle spreading its wings as if about to take flight from the waves.
Yellow and white stripes are incorporated into the black ribbing, creating a cohesive color scheme throughout the jacket.
The reversible side features the “Dragon Head” design, depicting a dragon’s head.
The mane radiating outward creates a sense of dynamism, and the pale green dragon and colorful thunderclouds stand out beautifully against the wine-red satin fabric, resulting in a striking finish.

Instead of standard automatic sewing machines, we use a “side-arm sewing machine,” where the craftsman manually adjusts the swing width and stitch length based on their intuition.
Under the supervision of a craftsman who has been creating embroidery since the 1950s, we strive to recreate the authentic look of that era.
The fabric is made of acetate, a classic material used for Sukajan jackets.
Originally used as a substitute for silk thread during postwar rationing, it features a beautiful sheen reminiscent of silk and a smooth drape.
Highly stretchy ribbing is used on the collar, cuffs, and hem to ensure a comfortable fit.
Vintage-inspired details—such as double-welt pockets and a butterfly zipper designed for reversible wear—have been faithfully recreated.
The silhouette features a clean neckline and natural shoulder lines created by the raglan sleeves.
