TYPE MA-1 ALBERT TURNER & CO.,INC. 318th FTR.INTCP.SQ "GREEN DRAGONS"
The 318th Fighter Interceptor Squadron was one of the first three squadrons to receive the Air Force's long-awaited supersonic jet fighter on March 2, 1957.
To commemorate this event, the squadron adopted the "Mach Wave" tail insignia, which was inspired by the supersonic era, and the squadron produced and adopted an unusually large back patch for the Air Force, which was well received by the squadron.
During the Vietnam War, the unit deployed quickly to Osan Air Base in South Korea in response to the capture of the U.S. intelligence-gathering ship Pueblo by North Korea, and continued to play an active role as the prestigious squadron of the Air Defense Command (Air Defense Command).
The most notable patch arrangement on this jet is the large patch on the back.
The back patch and stenciling are unprecedented for the Air Force, and show the pride of the 318FIS generals in the new supersonic era.
