In this work, we pick up "Hawk among Cherry Blossoms" by Katsushika Hokusai, one of the most famous ukiyoe artists of the Edo period.
Hokusai began to create many works with birds as his subjects after he turned 50, but most of them were not the gorgeous birds favored by ordinary painters, but rather fierce birds of prey with sharp beaks and claws.
This work depicts a dignified hawk hunting against a backdrop of cherry blossoms in full bloom, and features detailed depictions of the hawk's feathers and legs, which are tied to the perch with a braid.
