This is a reprint of a work created by Towncraft, which was born in the late 1920s as a private brand of J.C. Penney, a long-established department store that operated mainly in the mainland United States.
The design depicts and combines items related to ship navigation, such as rudders and anchors, and the fact that several other aloha shirts produced with similar motifs have been found shows the popularity of this design at the time.
This kind of ocean-related pattern was often sold in stores in resort areas such as Hawaii, Florida, and California.
