From the 2024 Fall/Winter collection of Japan's oldest jeans brand, Eight'G, comes a denim peacoat.
The pea coat is a typical autumn/winter outerwear item that has now completely established its position as a town-use item, despite its military origins.
Although most of them are made of wool, this item has been reconstructed as an item using denim, a standard material of American casual wear, to give it a more casual appearance while maintaining the traditional design of the pea coat and the ruggedness of military wear.
The fabric is a dark blue 19-ounce denim woven with indigo warp and black weft.
Most denim uses white threads in the weft, so when viewed from the front, you can see a flicker of white threads, but this denim is characterized by a deep color tone because the weft threads, which are darker than the indigo threads, can be seen through the gaps in the warp threads.
As it is worn, the indigo on the surface of the warp threads gradually rubs off and fades, allowing you to enjoy a tasteful change in color over time.
Since the denim coat can be worn for a long season, it can be enjoyed in a wide range of styling styles by changing the inner item or the volume of the coat.
Pea coats were originally designed to be worn on deck in cold winds, so they feature a large collar that covers the face to protect against strong winds.
A button-fastening strap is attached to the back of the collar to keep the collar up.
The straps have a subtle accent because a corduroy fabric of the same color is sewn on the back side.
The straps can be easily detached with the buttons, so they can be removed or stored behind the collar when not needed.
Both sides are equipped with hand warmer pockets (muff pockets) to keep frozen hands warm.
The edges of the pockets are reinforced with leather, and the inside of the pockets are made of corduroy, which provides excellent heat retention.
There are also flap pockets on either side of the waist for everyday use.
The cuffs have belts with two adjustable fastening positions.
Vintage pea coat style anchor buttons are used for each part of the buttons.
The double-breasted, wide overlapping front is one of the characteristics of the pea coat, but the body can be fastened with either the left or right side up.
This is done to prevent cold wind from entering the coat, allowing the coat to be tailored to the direction of the wind for better protection against the cold.
This is proof that the original specifications of the pea coat have been reproduced, as it is often omitted from fashion to wear the coat on the left front.
Since it is a single-layer tailoring without lining, you can feel the exquisite difference in color when you compare the front (indigo warp threads stand out) and back (black weft threads stand out) of the denim.
The woven name on the back of the collar, stitched in four directions, is an original design by Eight'G.
A practical collar suspension is provided above the name to allow the coat to be hung on a hook.
A center vent is provided at the center of the rear hem to reduce pressure around the waist when worn.

The silhouette is arranged somewhat neatly, giving the impression that it can be worn more easily as street wear.
