Keoni of Hawaii" is one of the series by Sun Surf, a brand that revives many vintage aloha shirts.
The series was born from the idea of legendary textile designer John Meigs to "make the aloha shirt, a symbol of Hawaiian culture, a bridge between Hawaii and Japan".
Keoni of Hawaii" has been created not as a mere collaboration but as a "work of art" by artists in Japan and abroad.
The name and tags are specially designed for this series, and a special case is also included.
The "WAIKIKI REEF" was designed by John Meigs himself, and this is the first time it has been reprinted.
The innovative and original design is very appealing.

KEONI OF HAWAII
In 1996, we at SUNSURF learned that John Meigs, a legendary textile designer who has left his mark on Hawaiian clothing history, was still alive. We immediately visited the site and found that he had in his possession an unpublished work that he had drawn in the 1940s. Based on the design drawings, the legendary works were commercialized under the name "Keoni of Hawaii," and John Meigs resumed designing aloha shirts. John Meigs also resumed designing aloha shirts and drew new designs to support the brand. However, due to his advanced age, his work became more and more burdensome over the years, and from 2001 onward, artists who shared his aspirations began to take up his work.

Numerous ocean-related motifs such as fish, shells, and casting nets appear in the designs, which are typical of Meigs and well represent the charm of Hawaii.
The Fisherman is also the root of the design depicted on the tag.

The neck has an open collar, which is standard for aloha shirts, but it is possible to close the top button under the collar according to the style.
The breast pocket is carefully and luxuriously patterned to match the body, giving a sense of unity to the design.
The hem is cut in a straight line, creating a relaxed box silhouette.

The backside of the shoulder yoke is decorated with cupro for a luxurious finish.
The underside of the yoke has small pleats on either side for enhanced mobility.
The fabric is made of filament rayon, which has a sheen and excellent heat dissipation properties, creating a drape that is typical of aloha shirts.
The buttons are coconut buttons carved from coconut palms.
