This is the Spring/Summer 2026 model from the “Sun Surf Special Edition” series—a line by the long-established brand “Sun Surf,” which continually pursues the charm of vintage aloha shirts—dedicated to reissuing pieces of particularly high historical value from its lineup.
This piece is a reissue of a classic aloha shirt originally created by “KAMEHAMEHA,” a brand under Kamehameha Garments, founded by Herb Bryner in 1936.
The “Matson Menu Pattern”—said to be the object of desire for every vintage aloha shirt collector—remains highly popular today and continues to be highly regarded in the vintage market.
From the early 20th century through 1969, the Matson Line operated a shipping route connecting San Francisco and Hawaii.
At the company’s request, renowned painter Eugene Savage created the artwork for the menu covers used in the Matson Line’s onboard restaurants.
This piece is a highly artistic work, reconstructed based on the original artwork and reimagined as an aloha shirt.
The textile design is attributed to “John McMillan,” a pseudonym known to be that of the famous designer John Mages.
